Lead Data Engineer (Databricks)

Location: United States; based in Austin, TX, Nashville, TN, or remote within the United States.

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain scalable batch and streaming data pipelines for data warehouses and data lakes.
• Own the Databricks Cloud Data Warehouse and optimize performance, cost, scalability, maintainability, and observability.
• Provide technical leadership through story definition, task planning, design discussions, code reviews, and delivery oversight.
• Implement data modeling, integration, lifecycle, quality, lineage, and metadata standards.
• Build governance, access, retention, accuracy, integrity, security, HIPAA, and SOX controls into data platforms and pipelines.
• Monitor and troubleshoot production workflows, lead root-cause analysis, and mentor engineers on best practices, testing, CI/CD, and emerging tools.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• 7+ years of hands-on experience in data engineering or the Big Data domain.
• 2+ years leading or mentoring engineers as a technical lead or senior engineer.
• Hands-on experience with Databricks, Snowflake, Fabric, or similar modern Big Data and cloud data warehouse technologies.
• Experience building scalable data solutions on a leading cloud platform, with Azure preferred.
• Proficiency in SQL and Python or another object-oriented language.

Nice to have

• Experience with orchestration and transformation tools such as Airflow or Azure Data Factory.
• Knowledge of dimensional, 3NF, or Data Vault modeling methodologies.
• Experience implementing data governance, security, and compliance requirements in data pipelines.
