Lead Analytics Engineer (Databricks)

Location: Oak Brook, Illinois, United States; hybrid

Salary: $102,600–$193,425 annual base pay, plus benefits, 401(k) contribution, and eligibility for a short-term incentive plan.

What you will do

• Design and maintain curated Gold-layer data models, domain data marts, and governed Unity Catalog metric views.
• Build modular Databricks SQL and PySpark transformations, streaming tables, declarative pipelines, and embedded data-quality tests.
• Develop Databricks AI/BI dashboards and migrate legacy reporting logic into trusted, reusable models.
• Partner with stakeholders to define enterprise metrics, resolve conflicting definitions, document changes, and communicate reporting impacts.
• Set analytics engineering standards, review designs and code, mentor engineers and analysts, and establish data contracts with upstream producers.
• Maintain lineage and agent-ready metadata, enable natural-language data access, and optimize performance and platform costs.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent relevant experience.
• 4+ years in analytics engineering, data engineering, data warehousing, or BI development, including 2+ years of hands-on Databricks experience.
• Technical leadership experience covering standards, design reviews, code reviews, and mentoring without formal direct reports.
• Expert SQL and strong Python/PySpark skills, with experience in dimensional modeling, star schemas, data marts, grain decisions, conformed dimensions, and slowly changing dimensions.
• Hands-on experience with Databricks, Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, Databricks SQL, medallion architecture, dashboards, data-quality testing, documentation, lineage, Git, and CI/CD.
• Ability to translate ambiguous business questions into durable models and dashboards, communicate with business audiences, and validate AI-generated code and metric logic.

Nice to have

• Databricks or Azure certifications.
• Experience with Unity Catalog metric views, Lakeflow Declarative Pipelines, Lakeflow Jobs, and Declarative Automation Bundles.
• Experience with AI/BI Genie spaces, reusable AI skills, prompt libraries, agent configurations, or agentic SQL refactoring workflows.
• Experience with data observability, data governance, master data management, cost attribution, or agile development.
