Library Technician (MARC21)

What you will do

• Process a large collection of print materials for a National Library of Medicine client using established workflows.
• Identify MARC bibliographic records by reviewing physical items and matching 19th- and 20th-century publications in Alma.
• Complete physical processing, including adding barcodes and call numbers and preparing fragile items for storage.
• Update bibliographic, holdings, and item records in cataloging systems.
• Flag potential duplicate items, code duplicates in Alma for review, and follow NLM policies and applicable national and international standards.

Requirements

• At least one year of experience physically processing collection materials.
• At least one year of library and cataloging experience, including familiarity with MARC21 and a library services platform.
• Ability to read titles, authors, and available metadata in English and compare them with physical collection materials.
• Familiarity with tools or methods such as Cutter-Sanborn Tables.
• Ability to obtain a public trust clearance.
• Ability to work onsite in Bethesda, Maryland.

Nice to have

• Experience working with fragile materials or in a special collections environment.
• In-depth cataloging experience.
• Familiarity with a variety of Western European languages.
