Product Owner (Ontology)

Location: Office-based in Cary, North Carolina, or Westlake Village, California

Salary: $75,000–$130,000 per year

What you will do

• Define and champion the enterprise ontology product vision, strategy, roadmap, and lifecycle.
• Own the ontology backlog and governance process, including change review, impact assessment, approval, and domain stewardship.
• Partner with data engineering to map source systems, maintain model hydration, and validate data pipelines.
• Define competency questions, validation tests, adoption metrics, and quality measures for domain models.
• Build the semantic grounding layer for AI agents and LLM-backed workflows with governed objects, permissions, lineage, and audit trails.
• Translate business needs into user stories, acceptance criteria, process flows, requirements, and measurable outcomes while aligning business, technology, risk, compliance, and executive stakeholders.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• At least 5 years of experience in product management, business analysis, or data product ownership.
• Experience with conceptual modeling, formal specification, validation, and production deployment of a business domain.
• Working knowledge of class hierarchies, property definitions, cardinality, inheritance, logical constraints, and controlled vocabularies.
• Working knowledge of SQL and the ability to profile source data independently.
• Strong workshop facilitation, stakeholder management, communication, presentation, and consensus-building skills.

Nice to have

• At least 2 years of experience with semantic modeling, ontologies, taxonomies, canonical data models, or knowledge graphs.
• Experience with RDF, OWL, SKOS, SHACL, SPARQL, Neo4j, Cypher, or modern semantic layer tools.
• Mortgage origination or servicing experience, including familiarity with MISMO standards.
