PhD Research Internship 2027 (Quantum Error Correction)

Location: Cambridge, UK; hybrid, based at the head office. The internship is full-time for 3–6 months, with flexible start dates in 2027.

Salary: £37,000 per annum, paid pro rata for the internship duration.

hirify.global develops quantum error correction technology and partners with quantum hardware providers and government agencies to advance fault-tolerant quantum computing.

What you will do

• Investigate quantum error-correction codes, decoding methods, and related research challenges.
• Develop algorithms, simulations, or software supporting research and technology development.
• Explore quantum algorithms and their potential industrial applications.
• Contribute to a defined project with a tangible outcome, such as a research paper, algorithm, software tool, or product contribution.
• Work with a dedicated supervisor and colleagues to develop ideas, evaluate approaches, and solve problems.
• Present and document research findings through discussions, presentations, and written reports.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a PhD and able to temporarily step away from PhD studies for the internship.
• Background in a quantitative discipline such as physics, mathematics, computer science, engineering, or a related technical field.
• Evidence of creative, high-quality research appropriate to the current stage of study.
• Experience with at least one general-purpose programming language.
• Strong critical-thinking, problem-solving, communication, initiative, and teamwork skills.
• Must already have the right to work in the UK for the full internship duration and must not require a visa to study in the UK.
