Advanced Specialist HPC Computational Engineer (Fusion)

Location: Culham, United Kingdom; regular onsite presence required, usually 3–5 days per week. Other hirify.global locations may also be considered.

Salary: £57,117, inclusive of a £5,800 specialist allowance.

What you will do

• Lead modelling, simulation, and uncertainty quantification across fusion research programmes.
• Develop and evaluate numerical methods and algorithms for scientific and engineering applications.
• Design, develop, test, and maintain advanced scientific software.
• Deploy and assess emerging computing architectures and accelerator technologies.
• Design and support digital twin capabilities for current and future fusion systems.
• Lead technical delivery for small project teams, publish research, support funding proposals, and build international collaborations.

Requirements

• Doctorate in computational, mathematical, or physical science, with a strong publication record or significant contributions to relevant software libraries, or equivalent commercial or research experience.
• Experience leading technical projects or teams in a research or engineering environment.
• Significant software development experience using a compiled language such as C++, Fortran, C, or Rust, or an advanced scripting language.
• Strong mathematical foundations, particularly in numerical analysis.
• Significant experience with high-performance computing systems and computational engineering software.
• Proficiency with UNIX operating systems and command-line environments.
