Deep Specialist HPC Computational Engineer (HPC)

Location: Rotherham, United Kingdom; regular onsite presence usually required 3–5 days per week. Other hirify.global locations may also be considered.

Salary: £71,815 per year, including a £7,700 specialist allowance.

What you will do

• Lead technical contributions to modelling, simulation, and uncertainty quantification workstreams.
• Oversee the development, quality, testing, and approval of software suites for computational nuclear and multiphysics applications.
• Develop strategies for deploying and evaluating software on emerging, peta-scale, and exa-scale computing architectures.
• Conduct research into numerical methods and algorithms applicable to fusion and other computational engineering fields.
• Lead international projects, collaborations, funding proposals, and externally funded research programmes.
• Provide technical advice, training, mentoring, and strategic guidance across the organisation.

Requirements

• Doctorate or equivalent qualification in computational, mathematical, or physical science, with a strong publication record or relevant software contribution.
• Significant experience with high-performance computing and at least one compiled or advanced scripting language, such as C++, Fortran, C, Rust, Julia, R, or Swift Parallel Scripting.
• Experience leading, mentoring, and managing distributed technical or project teams.
• Significant expertise and international reputation in a relevant computational engineering field, with a strong foundation in mathematics and numerical analysis.
• Experience developing verification and validation strategies and evaluating algorithms for fusion-based codes.
• Experience technically reviewing and approving contributions to large-scale software projects or journals.
