Customer Support Engineer (Test Systems)

Location: Customer site near Cheltenham, United Kingdom; predominantly onsite. Occasional support at other UK and European customer locations, travel to Toulouse, and visits to Bournemouth may be required.

What you will do

• Act as the primary day-to-day technical representative at the customer site and build relationships with engineering, production, and maintenance teams.
• Provide first-line support for test systems and associated equipment, investigate faults, and determine appropriate corrective actions.
• Diagnose electrical and electronic faults to module level, and where appropriate to component level, using standard test instrumentation.
• Perform wiring, looming, crimping, termination, soldering, electrical modifications, repairs, and rework.
• Carry out basic mechanical and fabrication work on test equipment, including panel modifications and thread repairs.
• Identify recurring issues and improvement opportunities, working with engineering and account teams to develop practical solutions.

Requirements

• Foundation in electrical or electronic engineering, supported by an HNC/HND or equivalent qualification or relevant practical experience.
• Experience maintaining, supporting, manufacturing, or modifying complex electrical or electronic equipment.
• Ability to fault-find to module level and use DMMs, oscilloscopes, and LCR meters.
• Strong practical wiring skills, including looming, crimping, terminating, and soldering.
• Ability to read electrical schematics, wiring schedules, system diagrams, and general arrangement drawings.
• Ability to work independently at a customer site, communicate effectively, exercise technical judgement, and escalate issues when specialist support is needed.

Nice to have

• Component-level diagnostic capability and experience with automated test systems and test programmes.
• IPC-WHMA-A-620 certification or experience working to recognised wiring and workmanship standards.
• Experience in control systems, power electronics, electromechanical systems, instrumentation, RF, communications, aerospace, defence, manufacturing, or regulated engineering environments.
