Staff Firefox Performance Engineer (C++)

Location: Remote US

Hiring ranges: $163,000–$218,000 for US Tier 1 locations; $150,000–$200,000 for US Tier 2 locations; $139,000–$185,000 for US Tier 3 locations.

What you will do

• Write code and tests, build prototypes, and investigate performance bottlenecks across the Firefox codebase.
• Develop performance improvements for Windows, Android, Linux, and macOS using C++, JavaScript, Kotlin, Rust, and Python.
• Use profiling, measurement, and experiments to diagnose issues and validate solutions.
• Educate engineers through code reviews, technical talks, tooling, and documentation.
• Lead cross-team performance initiatives, break down complex problems, and drive projects to completion.
• Own the performance of a significant browser area and contribute to benchmark strategy and the Performance team's technical roadmap.

Requirements

• BS or MS in computer science or computer engineering and 5+ years of relevant experience.
• Deep proficiency in C++ and working proficiency in JavaScript.
• Proven experience developing performance-critical software and analyzing performance bottlenecks.
• Experience with profiling tools such as VTune or Xperf and with at least one of multithreading and concurrency, disk I/O, or GPU work.
• Track record of driving multi-engineer projects to completion and collaborating across engineering teams.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for distributed, asynchronous collaboration.

• Familiarity with web standards or patterns.
• Android or Windows application programming experience.
• Solid understanding of statistics.
• Prior experience working on a modern web browser.
