Environmental Chemist (Inorganic Chemistry)

Location: Corvallis, Oregon, United States; conditions also list Salem, Oregon. Onsite laboratory role supporting a U.S. federal contract.

Salary: $45,785–$77,835 per year

What you will do

• Prepare and analyze air, water, soil, waste, and tissue samples for chemical contaminants.
• Perform inorganic chemistry analyses, primarily acid digestion, using EPA-approved methods.
• Operate ICP-OES, ICP-MS, and other laboratory instrumentation to determine metals and inorganic contaminants.
• Support environmental programs including Drinking Water, Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act, and Superfund activities.
• Follow EPA methods and the 2016 NELAC standard across laboratory activities.
• Work independently and collaboratively within the environmental laboratory team.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, environmental science, environmental engineering, or a related field.
• Strong verbal, interpersonal, written communication, and critical-thinking skills.
• Ability to lift 40 pounds, use ladders, and work at elevated heights while following safety standards.
• U.S. citizenship required under the federal contract.
• Ability to pass an EPA background check and obtain access to U.S. federal property.

Nice to have

• Laboratory bench experience using EPA-approved methodologies, including SW846 acid digestion, TCLP, or in vitro bioaccessibility methods.
• Experience with ICP-OES, ICP-MS, CVAA, TDAA, IC, TOC, or FIA instrumentation.
• Experience with Cal WET, environmental laboratory accreditation such as TNI or NELAC, or federal facilities.
• Experience with paperless laboratories and laboratory information management systems, including Promium’s Element LIMS.
