Summer 2027: Mechanical Engineering Intern, Shark (May to August)

Location: Needham, Massachusetts, United States; full-time onsite, five days per week

What you will do

• Contribute to concepting and development through brainstorming, sketching, prototyping, and design iteration.
• Build, test, and refine prototypes and lab rigs to validate performance, usability, and reliability.
• Collaborate with engineers, designers, and product managers on consumer-focused engineering solutions.
• Analyze test data and consumer feedback to improve product functionality and support design decisions.
• Participate in technical deep-dives and design reviews, identifying root causes and proposing practical solutions.
• Support CAD modeling, feasibility analysis, technical documentation, and considerations related to materials, mechanisms, manufacturing, and mass production.

Requirements

• Current student in, or recent graduate of, a related bachelor's, master's, or PhD program.
• Ability to work full-time, 40 hours per week, onsite five days per week in Needham, Massachusetts.
• Strong understanding of mechanical engineering and physics fundamentals, including thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and mechanical design.
• Experience with hands-on prototype development, experimental testing, and basic machine shop tools for plastic and metal components.
• Exposure to CAD software, ideally SolidWorks or Creo, and/or 3D printing or laser cutting.
• Familiarity with electronics, test equipment, and small-appliance components such as sensors, motors, heaters, and PCBAs.

Nice to have

• Experience with developer kits and tools such as Python, Arduino, or Raspberry Pi.
