Mechanical Engineering Co-op (Consumer Products)

Location: Needham, Massachusetts, United States; full-time onsite, five days per week. Work period: January 2027 to June 2027. No relocation or housing assistance is provided.

Hourly pay: $30–$36 USD.

What you will do

• Contribute to product concepting and development through brainstorming, sketching, prototyping, and design feasibility analysis.
• Build, test, and iterate prototypes and laboratory rigs to validate performance, usability, and reliability.
• Support CAD modeling, technical documentation, and hands-on development using materials, mechanisms, and manufacturing considerations.
• Analyze test results and consumer feedback to optimize product functionality and inform design decisions.
• Collaborate with engineers, designers, and product managers in technical deep-dives and design reviews.
• Investigate root causes and implement practical solutions across the product lifecycle, from prototypes to mass production.

Requirements

• Current student in, or recent graduate of, a related bachelor's, master's, or PhD program.
• Ability to work full-time, 40 hours per week, onsite five days per week in Needham, Massachusetts.
• Strong understanding of mechanical engineering and physics fundamentals, including thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and mechanical design.
• Experience or exposure to CAD software, ideally SolidWorks or Creo, and 3D printing or laser cutting.
• Hands-on experience developing prototypes in plastic and metal, using basic machine shop tools, and conducting experimental testing.
• Clear communication, analytical thinking, creativity, attention to detail, and the ability to solve technical problems independently and collaboratively.

Nice to have

• Experience with developer kits or platforms such as Python, Arduino, or Raspberry Pi.
• Familiarity with analog and digital electronics, test equipment, sensors, motors, heaters, and PCBAs used in small appliances.
