Principal Product Manager (Payroll Platform)

Location: Hybrid in Denver, New York, or San Francisco; office attendance is expected approximately 2–3 days per week. San Francisco office expectations include the San Jose metro area. Approved non-office work requires a secure, reliable, and consistent internet connection.

Cash compensation: $179,000,000–$220,000 per year in Denver and most major metro locations; $210,000–$260,000 per year in San Francisco, Seattle, and New York.

What you will do

• Define the vision, strategy, and roadmap for the Payroll Platform, including API contracts, shared pay-input interfaces, and platform boundaries.
• Drive adoption across internal teams, partners, and AI agents while tracking adoption, reliability, error rates, and customer outcomes.
• Lead cross-functional work with engineering, design, data, compliance, and teams consuming the platform.
• Build a unified payroll API and lead migrations of existing users and systems to support different worker types and new payment methods.
• Define payroll actions, controls, audit trails, and evaluations that enable AI agents to operate safely.
• Prototype and ship with AI while expanding agent autonomy based on evidence.

Requirements

• 8+ years of direct Product Management experience.
• Experience owning a platform, API, or developer product used by other teams or partners and driving adoption.
• Technical fluency in APIs, data models, and system design, including experience leading an API or interface migration.
• Strong platform judgment and experience making decisions about shared systems, contracts, and difficult-to-reverse choices.
• Experience designing trustworthy systems with controls, auditability, and evidence-based automation.
• Hands-on experience building with LLMs or agents, including tool design and evaluations.
