Software Engineer II, Backend (Online Storage)

Location: Remote, limited to candidates residing in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, or Saskatchewan

Base pay: CAD 133,000–183,000 per year

What you will do

• Build and scale cache services using Redis and Valkey, including end-to-end cluster migrations.
• Productionize cache clusters through capacity and shard planning, replication, failover, upgrades, staged rollouts, and rollback planning.
• Automate provisioning, configuration changes, and access through audited self-service workflows.
• Operate production infrastructure by defining SLOs, monitoring hot keys, memory pressure, replication lag, and reducing operational overhead.
• Partner with client teams on caching strategy, including key design, TTLs, consistency, and client timeouts.
• Collaborate with product, design, analytics, and engineering stakeholders while contributing to on-call operations and technical decisions.

Requirements

• 2+ years of software engineering experience.
• Backend development and production experience with Python or Kotlin.
• Knowledge of distributed systems and experience with AWS, MySQL, Redis or Valkey, Terraform, and Kubernetes.
• Production experience with an in-memory store, including replication, persistence, cluster mode, eviction, and failure modes.
• Understanding of caching workloads, including hit rates, tail latency, hot keys, stampedes, and consistency.
• Experience operating stateful services, handling incidents, writing tested code, navigating large codebases, and conducting code reviews.
