Staff Engineer, HMS DevOps/DevEx (R6196)

Location: Washington, D.C., United States; Workplace: On-site

Salary: $150,000–$230,000 per year, plus bonus, benefits, and equity for regular full-time employees.

What you will do

• Build and maintain GitLab CI/CD pipelines and runner environments for C++, Python, and Node.js projects.
• Automate integrations between GitLab, Jira, and Confluence using scripts, webhooks, APIs, and state-change workflows.
• Develop Python and Bash extensions for the pi-gov GenAI routing harness with secure, audited LLM routing rules.
• Deploy and scale Forge simulation and test orchestration in Azure Gov Cloud.
• Secure Artifactory registries and container builds using BuildKit, secret injection, and Entra ID integration.
• Migrate legacy build systems to reproducible Nix developer environments and troubleshoot pipeline, registry, and system configuration issues.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• Deep experience building, maintaining, and scaling enterprise CI/CD systems, especially GitLab CI/CD pipelines and runner infrastructure.
• Hands-on Bash or Python scripting, webhooks, APIs, Docker, multi-stage builds, and package managers such as Conan, Poetry, or Nix.
• Experience with cloud workloads, secure software development, secret management, Active Directory or Entra ID, Linux administration, networking, and troubleshooting.
• U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain an active U.S. SECRET security clearance are required.
