Executive Director, Chemical Biology/Drug Design (AI)

Location: Remote within the United States; candidates local to or willing to relocate to Salt Lake City, Utah may work in the office, with employees expected to work in the office at least 50% of the time.

Annual base salary: $237,600–$284,900, plus bonus, equity compensation, and benefits.

What you will do

• Set chemical biology strategy linking multiomic maps of biology to target identification and chemical probe design.
• Establish drug discovery approaches across traditional small molecules, protein degraders, molecular glues, covalent chemistry, and other emerging modalities.
• Build, manage, and mentor a team of multiomics chemists while developing internal and CRO chemistry capabilities.
• Partner with biology, target identification, structural biology, computational drug design, data science, and platform technology groups.
• Define program strategy, portfolio priorities, and go/no-go criteria with senior leadership.
• Represent chemical biology in portfolio governance, external collaborations, intellectual property strategy, and business development.

Requirements

• PhD in chemical biology, chemistry, or a related field, plus 10+ years of relevant industry experience.
• Demonstrated people leadership, including hiring, mentoring, and managing scientists, managers, and cross-functional project teams.
• Hands-on experience designing selective inhibitors, molecular glues, PROTACs, covalent or activity-based probes, or photoaffinity chemistry.
• Experience deconvoluting phenotypic hits to mechanism using chemoproteomics or equivalent target identification methods.
• Experience building multi-year chemical biology strategy, including chemical library architecture and probe portfolio direction.
• Must be based in the United States for the remote arrangement.

Nice to have

• Experience with phenomics, high-content imaging, Cell Painting, or image-based screening.
• Familiarity with AI/ML-derived phenotypic signatures for compound prioritization or target nomination.
• Scientific visibility through publications, conference leadership, or partner-facing technical work.
• Experience with IP strategy or licensing diligence involving novel chemical matter.
