TL;DR
Director of Technology & Chief Architect (Java): Owning the architecture of a cloud platform built on hundreds of Java microservices processing millions of real-time gaming transactions daily with an accent on low-latency processing, strong consistency, reliability, and auditability. Focus on designing distributed transaction patterns, evolving service and data architectures, guiding Kubernetes and cloud infrastructure, and leading the engineering and technology teams.

What you will do
- Own the architecture of a cloud platform comprising hundreds of primarily Java microservices and millions of real-time transactions per day.
- Design service boundaries, APIs, data ownership, inter-service communication, and distributed transaction patterns.
- Set Java, database, cloud, observability, reliability, security, and incident-management standards.
- Guide Kubernetes, containers, managed data services, networking, infrastructure as code, scalability, disaster recovery, and cost efficiency.
- Lead architecture reviews, address architectural debt, and evolve legacy services without disrupting live traffic.
- Build and mentor engineering and technology teams, define the technology roadmap, manage vendors, and communicate strategy and risk to executives and partners.
Requirements
- 12+ years of software engineering experience, including 5+ years as an architect of large distributed systems.
- Expert Java, including Java 17+, Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, concurrency, JVM performance tuning, and garbage collection.
- Production experience designing and operating 100+ microservices and systems handling millions of real-time transactions per day.
- Deep database experience across relational databases, NoSQL, caching, schema design, partitioning, replication, and performance tuning.
- Experience with Kafka or comparable streaming platforms, AWS or GCP, Docker, Kubernetes, and Terraform or similar infrastructure-as-code tools.
- Experience leading engineering teams, hiring and interviewing technical candidates, and communicating clearly with executives and engineers. Employees must be eligible to work in the United States.
Nice to have
- Experience in gaming, iGaming, sweepstakes or social casino, sports betting, fintech, or payments.
- Experience with wallets, ledgers, payment reconciliation, gaming regulation, PCI DSS, or SOC 2.
- Experience migrating monoliths or legacy services to microservices without downtime.
- Experience with reactive Java, FinOps, and cloud cost optimization at scale.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
