Assistant General Counsel (Fintech)

Location: On-site in Grand Rapids, Michigan, United States; candidates should be comfortable with an on-site presence for collaboration, team leadership, and cross-functional partnership.

What you will do

• Draft, review, and negotiate a high volume of commercial agreements across SaaS, hosted services, technology, cybersecurity, vendor, supplier, insurance, procurement, SOW, and order-form matters.
• Support sales-driven transactions by preparing customer contracts, responding to counterparty redlines, and partnering with sales and operations.
• Advise internal stakeholders on practical, business-oriented legal solutions while managing legal, regulatory, operational, and reputational risk.
• Lead negotiations with customers, vendors, partners, and their counsel while balancing risk allocation with commercial objectives.
• Review marketing and advertising materials and evaluate legal risks associated with new products, programs, and business opportunities.
• Develop templates, playbooks, and clause libraries while collaborating and cross-training across the legal team.

Requirements

• J.D. from an accredited law school and active bar membership in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
• 5–8 years of legal experience, preferably combining law firm and in-house work.
• Significant experience drafting and negotiating SaaS, technology, and vendor agreements.
• Experience supporting sales and transactional workflows in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
• Strong understanding of limitation of liability, indemnification, data protection, negotiation, and contract risk allocation.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and use sound judgment; enthusiasm for AI and technology-enabled legal solutions.

Nice to have

• Experience in insurance, financial services, technology, cybersecurity, or professional services.
• Experience reviewing marketing or advertising materials and improving contract processes for scaling sales organizations.
• Familiarity with the FTC Act, CAN-SPAM Act, TCPA, or TSR.
