Senior Data Engineer (GCP/BigQuery)

Location: United States; New York hybrid or remote.

Base salary: $160,000–$185,000 annually.

What you will do

• Own and expand the data platform supporting advertising, campaign, product, financial, revenue, and publisher-payment reporting.
• Design and implement BigQuery lake and warehouse architecture, including raw, staging, core, and reporting datasets, partitioning, clustering, ownership, and incremental loading.
• Build and maintain batch and streaming pipelines with Python, SQL, Apache Beam, Dataflow, Pub/Sub, Cloud Storage, APIs, databases, and files.
• Develop Cloud Composer and Apache Airflow workflows with safe retries, alerts, dependency management, replay, backfills, and failure recovery.
• Create governed data models, data marts, Superset datasets, shared metric definitions, and reporting workflows for campaign delivery, reconciliation, analytics, and leadership.
• Lead data-quality, observability, access-control, cost-management, incident-response, documentation, and cross-functional data initiatives.

Requirements

• Demonstrated success designing, rearchitecting, and operating production analytical data platforms with durable raw layers, cloud warehouses, governed models, and business-facing data marts.
• Deep hands-on experience with BigQuery schema design, partitioning, clustering, query performance, permissions, retention, and cost management.
• Strong Python and advanced SQL skills for maintainable, tested production code across ingestion, transformation, orchestration, and data-serving layers.
• Production experience with Apache Beam, Dataflow, Apache Airflow, and Cloud Composer, including idempotency, late-arriving events, schema evolution, monitoring, replay, backfills, and recovery.
• Experience with dimensional, event, and domain modeling; data quality, reconciliation, observability, lineage, alerting, runbooks, and governed BI through Superset or a comparable platform.
• Experience with Git, automated testing, CI/CD, code review, infrastructure as code such as Terraform, data governance, least-privilege access, privacy, retention, and technical documentation.
