Senior User Experience Researcher (Fintech)

Location: Hybrid, with onsite presence four days per week, within a reasonable commuting distance of an M&T Bank regional office in Buffalo, Boston, Baltimore, Washington, Wilmington, New York, Bridgeport, or Burlington, United States.

Salary: $113,300–$188,800 annual, USD.

What you will do

• Establish and evolve a consistent UX research discipline across product teams.
• Define user problems and conduct generative and evaluative mixed-method research, including surveys, ethnography, interviews, concept testing, usability testing, and heuristic evaluations.
• Analyze research, behavioral, customer, and employee data to identify meaningful patterns and actionable insights.
• Present findings through clear written, visual, and in-person storytelling that influences product and experience strategy.
• Partner with Product Management, Design, Engineering, Marketing, Business, Market Research, and Analytics teams.
• Guide research prioritization, mentor researchers, and ensure research findings are implemented with appropriate rigor.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree and at least five years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience with at least five years of related experience.
• Experience designing and conducting UX research studies and applying design-thinking methodologies.
• Strong understanding of research methods and when to apply them throughout product development.
• Experience with accessibility standards, cross-platform issues, mobile interfaces, systems thinking, and ambiguous problem spaces.
• Experience with modern design, prototyping, and collaboration tools such as Figma, UserTesting, Miro, and Jira.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, critical-thinking, communication, time-management, and collaboration skills.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in a related field.
• Experience with survey design, statistics, and experimental design.
• Experience creating use cases, flow diagrams, prototypes, scenarios, and wireframes for UX research.
• Experience with desktop, mobile, and web application best practices.
• Experience working in the financial industry and with Product Managers, Product Designers, and Product Marketers.
