Software Engineer, Trust & Safety

Location: Fully remote, based in the Americas or aligned with European time zones; occasional travel for team offsites, conferences, and meetups is expected.

Salary: $150,000–$175,000 USD per year, depending on location and experience.

What you will do

• Build and operate a millisecond-latency real-time enforcement layer across email sending, receiving, and account activity.
• Design detection pipelines that move from signals to decisions and automated actions.
• Create safe-to-change detection rules and policies for spam, phishing, account takeover, and leaked API keys.
• Automate investigations, appeals, bulk actions, and other manual trust and safety workflows.
• Build and evaluate ML classifiers, measuring precision and recall before enforcement.
• Implement fail-safe safeguards with comprehensive logs, metrics, tracing, and audit trails.

Requirements

• 5+ years of software engineering experience.
• Fluent spoken and written English.
• Deep experience with Node.js, TypeScript, React, Hono, or Next.js.
• Experience with infrastructure and reliability tools such as AWS, CDK, and Datadog.
• Strong knowledge of APIs, event-driven architectures, queues, stateful services, databases, Postgres, and Redis.
• Ability to design reliable systems where false positives are treated as defects and actions remain observable.

Nice to have

• Experience with Go and latency-sensitive services.
• Background in trust and safety, fraud, or security.
• Experience building rate limiters, rules engines, or real-time enforcement systems.
• Production experience with ML or LLM-based detection and precision/recall measurement.
• Knowledge of email authentication and abuse patterns, including SPF, DKIM, DMARC, bounces, complaints, and phishing campaigns.
