Mechanical Engineering Technician (Test and Automation)

Location: Elizabethtown, North Carolina, United States. Work is performed in an engineering office and an active manufacturing environment.

Salary: $25.77–$47.79 per hour

What you will do

• Support the Senior Mechanical Engineer with 3D CAD models, mechanical assemblies, detailed drawings, bills of material, and design revisions.
• Design, build, assemble, modify, and test fixtures, tooling, test stands, automation equipment, guards, workstations, and mechanical subassemblies.
• Assist with installation, alignment, checkout, debugging, validation, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting of test and automation equipment.
• Work with electrical, controls, software, test, manufacturing, quality, maintenance, production, suppliers, and equipment integrators.
• Collect production and equipment data, support root-cause analysis, production trials, process changes, equipment installations, and continuous-improvement activities.
• Create and maintain drawings, technical documentation, test records, work instructions, spare-parts lists, CAD files, project records, and revision-controlled documents.

Requirements

• Associate degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, CAD/Drafting, Manufacturing Technology, or a related technical field, or equivalent education and hands-on experience.
• Relevant experience in mechanical design support, test equipment, automation, tooling, fixtures, manufacturing, equipment maintenance, or a similar technical environment.
• Ability to create and revise 3D CAD models and mechanical drawings; SolidWorks experience is strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of mechanical components, materials, fasteners, bearings, mechanisms, fabrication methods, drawings, specifications, and bills of material.
• Ability to use calipers, micrometers, tape measures, scales, and height gauges, and to safely assemble, adjust, test, and troubleshoot equipment.
• Ability to work around moving machinery and industrial noise, use required PPE, and handle tools, fixtures, parts, and equipment weighing up to 40 pounds.

Nice to have

• Two or more years of experience in manufacturing, test engineering, automation, machine building, or mechanical design.
• Knowledge of GD&T, tolerance stack-up, drawing release, fabrication processes, pneumatics, hydraulics, sensors, actuators, robotics, or automated machinery.
• Experience with ERP, engineering-change, controlled-document, Lean manufacturing, 5S, root-cause analysis, or continuous-improvement systems.
