TL;DR
Senior Quantum Engineer, Photonics (Quantum Computing): Building and operating experimental platforms for superconducting quantum computers with optical communication links, with an accent on dilution-refrigerator experiments, cryogenic photonics, and quantum control. Focus on characterizing noise and gate fidelity, automating measurements, evaluating scalable control-stack architectures, and coordinating technical contributions to research projects.

Location: hirify.global Finland, Espoo; hybrid setup with flexible hours

Company

hirify.global develops full-stack quantum computers and related hardware and software systems for demanding computational applications.

What you will do

  • Build and operate an experimental platform for superconducting quantum computing with optical communication links.
  • Design and run dilution-refrigerator experiments, including optical signal paths, sample installation, RF and microwave optimization, and automated measurements.
  • Characterize cryogenic photodiodes, lasers, modulators, and other optical and cryogenic electronic components.
  • Demonstrate and characterize single- and two-qubit gates and qubit readout using optical interconnects.
  • Simulate and analyze gate fidelity, noise, drift, and dissipation while evaluating scalable control-stack and signal-path options.
  • Document findings, communicate technical results, and contribute to grant proposals, reporting, and partner coordination.

Requirements

  • PhD in applied physics, electrical engineering, or a related field.
  • At least five years of relevant academic or industrial experience in electronics, photonics, or quantum computing.
  • Practical experience with quantum-related or active-electronics experiments in a dilution refrigerator, including setup, troubleshooting, operation, and sample installation.
  • Experience with RF and microwave measurement equipment such as network analyzers and pulse generators.
  • Python skills for scientific programming, measurement automation, and data analysis.
  • Clear written and spoken English and the ability to coordinate with internal and external technical stakeholders.

Nice to have

  • Experience with superconducting qubits, circuit quantum electrodynamics, qubit control or readout, photonics, optical interconnects, or microwave photonics.
  • Experience with cryogenic photodiodes, cryo-CMOS, or other cryogenic electronic components.
  • Familiarity with EXA or similar tools for QPU experiments.
  • Experience with research grants, collaborative projects, or technical proposals.

Culture & Benefits

  • Hybrid work setups and flexible hours.
  • Learning Hub, LinkedIn Learning, and a team-based learning and development budget.
  • Flat hierarchy with direct access to leadership.
  • Opportunities to publish papers, participate in hackathons, and contribute to the wider quantum ecosystem.
  • Work in a growing organization positioned between a startup and a corporation.

Hiring process

  • Interviews and hiring proceed as soon as suitable candidates are identified.
  • Early application is encouraged.
