Accounting Automation Engineer (AI)

Location: Remote within the European Union; applicants may be located in any country within approximately ±4 hours of CET.

What you will do

• Build agentic AI systems and agents to automate accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, month-end close, and general accounting operations.
• Automate invoice capture, vendor matching, purchase-order matching, payment preparation, cash application, collections reminders, and credit-note handling.
• Develop bank, card, balance-sheet, intercompany, subledger, and payment-processor reconciliation processes across entities, accounts, and currencies.
• Automate recurring journals, accruals, prepayments, amortization, depreciation, FX revaluation, trial-balance checks, variance analysis, and management reporting.
• Build data pipelines between ERPs, banks, payment platforms, spreadsheets, and other systems using APIs, CSV/Excel data, SQL, and MCP servers.
• Maintain human review for judgment-based exceptions while ensuring accuracy, controls, evidence collection, and audit trails.

Requirements

• Strong knowledge of IFRS or US GAAP, demonstrated through ACCA, ACA, CPA, equivalent qualifications, or several years of hands-on accounting experience.
• Hands-on experience building automations with Python or JavaScript/TypeScript and daily use of AI coding tools, ideally Claude Code.
• Experience with AP, AR, bank reconciliation, and month-end close processes.
• Ability to run local scripts and schedule jobs with cron, task schedulers, or CI pipelines.
• Comfort working with APIs, MCP servers, CSV/Excel data, basic SQL, and accounting controls.
• Availability to work within approximately ±4 hours of CET.

Nice to have

• Experience with multi-entity, multi-currency, intercompany, and consolidation processes.
• Experience building AI agents and agentic workflows, including tool use and MCP servers.
• ERP and ERP API experience, plus knowledge of VAT/GST and e-invoicing rules across several jurisdictions.
• Experience with Git, testing, basic cloud deployment, or finance transformation teams.
• Additional languages used in non-English markets.
