Principal Software Development Engineer (Microservices)

Location: Santa Clara, California, USA; hybrid role requiring a minimum of 3 days per week in the office

Base pay range: $185,500–$265,000 USD per year, excluding bonus, equity, commission, and benefits.

What you will do

• Lead the technical roadmap for modernizing the hirify.global Internet Access control plane with API-first microservices, clear service ownership, and multi-region architectures.
• Design, develop, and operate low-latency event-driven services from APIs through storage.
• Implement resilience patterns, blue/green and canary releases, feature flags, GitOps workflows, and safe rollback strategies.
• Establish engineering standards for testing, code reviews, API and event contracts, schema governance, and dead-letter queue processing.
• Own reliability and operability through SLI/SLO definition, alerting, error budgets, incident response, postmortems, distributed tracing, and structured logging.
• Embed security, supply-chain integrity, performance optimization, capacity planning, autoscaling, and cloud cost management across AWS services.

Requirements

• 12+ years of software development experience, including 4+ years building and operating production microservices at significant scale.
• Strong proficiency in Go and deep experience with distributed systems, messaging, Kafka or comparable technologies, CQRS, and Event Sourcing.
• Experience with Kubernetes on AWS, preferably EKS, Docker, Infrastructure as Code, and GitOps workflows.
• Strong SQL and NoSQL database design and scaling experience, including multi-region data trade-offs, performance engineering, and AWS cost optimization.
• Experience with reliability and security practices including SLIs/SLOs, Prometheus, OpenTelemetry, service mesh, mTLS, OAuth2/OIDC, KMS, and Vault.
• Foundational understanding of AI/ML technologies and experience applying or securing AI-driven solutions.

Nice to have

• AI-enabled operational efficiency initiatives, chaos engineering, fault injection, advanced performance testing, and disaster recovery drills.
• Multi-region active-active design, partitioning, replication, eventual consistency, migration leadership, and domain decomposition.
• Event contract governance with Avro or Protobuf, schema registries, data replay tooling, OSS contributions, technical talks, patents, or published design writing.
