Director, Pipeline Engineering (AI Infrastructure)

Location: Houston, TX; remote work considered within the US, with regular travel to project sites, vendor facilities, and construction spreads

Salary: $170,000–$290,000 USD base salary, plus potential bonus, equity, and commission programs

What you will do

• Own the design basis for natural gas transmission pipelines, including hydraulic design, MAOP, pressure regimes, line pack, routing, sizing, and future expansion.
• Direct steady-state and transient hydraulic modeling and connect pipeline behavior to engine demand, campus availability, nominations, and curtailment scenarios.
• Define overpressure protection, regulation, control, measurement, SCADA, process safety, and plant fuel-gas interface philosophies.
• Lead regulatory compliance, material and construction specifications, integrity planning, commissioning, hydrotesting, purge and pack activities, and first gas readiness.
• Technically manage engineering consultants, construction contractors, upstream operators, interconnect counterparties, scope, schedule, budget, and technical documentation.
• Develop pipeline standards and reference designs while building and leading Nscale's internal pipeline engineering function.

Requirements

• 15+ years of natural gas pipeline engineering experience across design, construction, and operations, including major transmission systems and lead or owner's engineer responsibilities.
• Deep experience with gas transmission hydraulics, transient modeling, inventory-based system behavior, regulation, overpressure protection, and control philosophy.
• Working fluency with 49 CFR Part 192, ASME B31.8, MAOP determination, class location, and interfaces with plant piping under ASME B31.1 or B31.3.
• Experience with measurement and regulation stations, interstate pipeline interconnects, nominations, transportation mechanics, construction, hydrotesting, and first gas.
• Ability to direct consultants and contractors, make technically defensible decisions, establish engineering standards, and hire and develop engineers.
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Civil Engineering, or a related field; regular project and construction-site travel is required, typically 25% or more during commissioning.
