Manufacturing Senior Equipment Safety Engineer

Location: San Diego, California, United States; the role supports San Diego and Korea Factory operations and includes routine on-campus physical responsibilities. Applicants must be legally authorized to access controlled technology under United States export regulations before starting.

Salary: $127,200–$174,900 annual base salary

What you will do

• Serve as the senior technical authority for machine safety, equipment safety, and occupational safety across San Diego and Korea Factory operations.
• Lead manufacturing risk assessments, process safety audits, equipment inspections, and complex incident investigations.
• Define safety and compliance requirements, technical strategies, safeguarding expectations, and corrective actions for manufacturing tools, test equipment, automated systems, and laboratories.
• Apply Safety by Design principles and verify compliance with NRTL, SEMI, and other applicable safety standards before equipment and tooling enter service.
• Mentor junior and mid-level safety engineers through technical reviews, training, and development planning.
• Drive safety culture, toolbox talks, safety communications, continuous improvement initiatives, and cross-functional EHS programs.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science or higher in Occupational Safety and Health, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• At least 5 years of directly related safety experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
• Expertise in machine safety, equipment safety, functional safety standards, hazard identification, risk assessment, safeguarding technologies, and safety engineering methodologies.
• Experience with standards and processes including SEMI S2/S8/S10/S22, ISO 12100, ISO 13849-1, IEC 60204-1, NFPA 79, UL 61010-1, and NRTL processes.
• Demonstrated ability to conduct HAZOP and safety risk assessments, investigate complex incidents, communicate with technical and executive stakeholders, and work independently.
• Experience mentoring or formally developing safety professionals; professional certification such as CSP, CMSE, or TUV Functional Safety Engineer is preferred.
