Controls Engineer (Manufacturing)

Location: Devens, Massachusetts, United States. On-site role with occasional travel and required nights, weekends, or on-call work.

Salary: $90,000–$145,000 per year, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Own the lifecycle of smaller equipment components and upgrades, from physical mounting and pneumatic/electrical integration through PLC I/O mapping and commissioning.
• Troubleshoot production equipment faults, restore uptime, and implement root-cause and preventative fixes.
• Develop system architectures and electrical schematics aligned with NFPA79, NEC, and UL508A standards.
• Write and debug organized, documented, maintainable, and reusable PLC Structured Text.
• Lead short-term technical problem solving and formal design reviews with equipment and manufacturing engineering teams.
• Develop department tools and characterize automated processes using data-driven methods such as Cpk and Gage R&R.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in an engineering field.
• 4+ years of experience as a controls engineer working with electro-mechanical systems.
• Proficiency in Structured Text and Ladder, with working knowledge of other IEC 61131-3 languages.
• Knowledge of control-related safety systems and enclosure design compliant with ANSI/RIA 15.06, OSHA, NFPA79, NEC, and UL508A.
• Hands-on familiarity with manufacturing equipment, fabrication, or assembly, plus experience collaborating with job shops and external vendors.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally and work safely around heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead, high voltage, and cryogenics.

Nice to have

• Experience with Beckhoff or Siemens controls platforms.
• Experience with Ignition SCADA, IO-Link, MQTT, or other equipment-data integrations.
• Machine vision or greenfield/brownfield startup commissioning experience.
• AutoCAD Electrical or other CAD drafting expertise.
