Distribution System Modeling and Automation Engineer (MATLAB/Synergi Electric)

Location: Berlin, CT, United States; hybrid schedule. Travel between Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New Hampshire and emergency restoration assignments may be required. Eversource will not provide immigration-related visa sponsorship.

Annual salary: $100,490–$111,660, plus potential incentive compensation.

What you will do

• Perform advanced Synergi Electric special studies, including 8760-hour thermal and voltage analyses, N-1 contingency studies, and fault current and protection-related studies.
• Develop scenario-based planning analyses comparing wires and non-wires solutions under different load growth, DER adoption, and contingency conditions.
• Automate Synergi Electric Solver execution, batch large-scale studies, and postprocess and visualize modeling results with MATLAB.
• Support Synergi Electric model management, including model setup, versioning, execution, and results tracking.
• Support Synergi Electric and PSCAD integration for electromagnetic transient studies.
• Prepare decision-ready reports, visualizations, technical documentation, and recommendations for planners, engineers, and leadership.

Requirements

• 3+ years of professional experience in utility industry work, power system planning, distribution engineering, power system analysis, or a related field.
• Hands-on experience with Synergi Electric modeling, Solver workflows, special studies, 8760-hour simulations, time-series processing, and fault current analysis.
• Professional MATLAB and Simulink experience, including tested and version-controlled automation code, batch processing, postprocessing, and visualization.
• Knowledge of distribution system planning, load growth, DER integration, voltage performance, and system constraints.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, technical writing, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a quantitative field preferred; advanced degree preferred. Work samples may be requested.

Nice to have

• Experience with Synergi Electric-PSCAD workflows and electromagnetic transient studies.
• Familiarity with Synergi Model Management capabilities and model lifecycle automation.
• Experience with SQL databases, MS SQL, or structured enterprise data sources.
• Experience integrating agentic and AI-based workflows in MATLAB.
