Payroll Specialist

Location: Remote, United States

Salary: $57,000–$73,000 per year in target base compensation. Target total cash compensation, including potential bonus, is $63,000–$80,000 per year.

What you will do

• Execute biweekly and bimonthly payroll, off-cycle payments, funding, and post-payroll validation for US employees and independent contractors.
• Own UKG Pro and UKG Workforce Management configuration, testing, integrations, release testing, troubleshooting, and timekeeping administration.
• Improve payroll processes by identifying manual steps, reconciliation gaps, and error-prone handoffs, then implementing systems-driven controls and automation.
• Perform payroll audits and reconciliations and provide payroll registers, funding reports, and supporting details for accounting close and audits.
• Manage tax registrations, wage garnishments, levies, support orders, year-end W-2 and 1099 activities, and employee payroll inquiries.
• Support HRIS, payroll, and timekeeping implementations, migrations, module rollouts, configuration testing, parallel runs, data validation, and post-cutover reconciliation.

Requirements

• 5+ years of US multi-state payroll experience, including full-cycle processing for a population of 2,000+ employees.
• 2+ years of hands-on UKG Pro and UKG Workforce Management configuration experience, including pay rules, earnings and deductions, integrations, and release testing.
• Direct experience with at least one payroll, HRIS, or timekeeping implementation, migration, or major module rollout.
• Working knowledge of multi-state wage and hour rules, state and local tax registration, garnishments, and W-2 and 1099 reporting.
• Advanced spreadsheet skills and the ability to independently reconcile large data sets.
• Demonstrated experience improving payroll processes and implementing measurable operational changes.

Nice to have

• CPP or FPC certification.
• Payroll experience in healthcare, multi-site, or high-growth environments.
• Experience with shift-based or clinical scheduling pay rules and premium calculations.
