Outpatient Coding Consultant (Interventional Radiology)

Location: Remote - United States

Sign-on bonus: $3,000 for full-time employees; $1,500 for PRN employees.

What you will do

• Review medical records and assign accurate diagnosis, procedure, and discharge disposition codes.
• Validate CPT codes for precertification and prior authorization of same-day and outpatient surgical procedures.
• Abstract and enter coded data for hospital statistical and reporting requirements.
• Identify documentation improvement opportunities and communicate coding, clinical, and reimbursement issues to appropriate personnel.
• Maintain 95% coding accuracy and 95% APC assignment accuracy while meeting productivity standards.
• Maintain professional credentials, complete continuing education, follow AHIMA ethics and HIM policies, and collaborate with hospital staff and colleagues.

Requirements

• AHIMA certification such as RHIA, RHIT, or CCS, or AAPC certification such as CPC, CPC-H, COC, CIC, or CRC.
• Interventional radiology coding experience required.
• At least 2 years of hospital or coding consulting experience; the role description also references 3+ years of surgery and observation coding experience.
• Proficiency in same-day surgery, observation, injections and infusions, ancillary services, emergency department coding, and E/M leveling.
• Experience with EPIC, 3M/Solventum, and computerized encoding and abstracting software.
• Strong written and verbal communication, organization, time management, and remote-work skills; annual HIPAA and other assigned testing is required.

Nice to have

• CIRCC or RCCIR credential.
• Experience with observation time carve-outs and precertification reviews.
