Software Test Engineer (Aviation)

Location: Huntsville, Alabama, United States; onsite role with up to 25% US travel

What you will do

• Oversee OEM and supplier Formal Qualification Testing and requirements-based testing against DO-178C and DO-254 objectives.
• Evaluate software life cycle data, verification artifacts, SIL testing procedures, and airworthiness compliance.
• Provide government oversight for Test Readiness Reviews, qualification testing, Stage of Involvement audits, and related milestone reviews.
• Support software release transitions from SIL environments into active flight-test environments and evaluate test-fix-test cycles for AWR and SOF compliance.
• Assess next-generation software architectures for MOSA compliance and FACE conformance.
• Improve test oversight processes, prepare technical briefings, and resolve integration risks and testing bottlenecks across the supply chain.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline or equivalent experience and 5+ years of relevant experience.
• Active Secret clearance and US citizenship are required; ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance is also required.
• Technical oversight and software Formal Qualification Testing experience in a defense acquisition environment.
• Deep familiarity with DO-178C, DO-254, software oversight processes, and SIL testing.
• Ability to travel up to 25% within the United States.

Nice to have

• Advanced degree and experience with next-generation military aviation acquisition programs.
• Familiarity with Disciplined Agile Delivery and iterative test methodologies.
• Knowledge of Multi-Core Processor and Integrated Modular Avionics certification objectives.
• Experience auditing FACE and MOSA directives or working within Integrated Product Teams.
• Advanced knowledge of Army airworthiness, system safety, and materiel release processes.
