Senior Backend Engineer (Java/Go)

What you will do

• Design, build, and own production-grade backend services replacing capabilities provided by third-party CMS platforms.
• Design and implement authentication and identity services with secure session and token management.
• Define APIs for a headless frontend and other digital products using REST, GraphQL, and/or gRPC.
• Lead migrations from vendor or legacy platforms with minimal disruption to users and systems.
• Build and operate cloud-native services across AWS and Google Cloud while maintaining reliability, scalability, performance, logging, metrics, and tracing.
• Collaborate with engineering stakeholders, mentor a mid-level engineer, and shape AI-assisted and agentic development workflows.

Requirements

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience with senior-level ownership of production services.
• Strong professional experience with Java and Go.
• Hands-on experience with AWS and Google Cloud managed services.
• Strong knowledge of API design, distributed systems, authentication, OAuth 2.0, OIDC, SSO, session management, and token management.
• Experience with service migrations, production observability, reliability, and scalable backend architecture.
• Fluent English communication skills and the ability to work autonomously with senior technical stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Experience with media, publishing, CMS, or Brightspot platforms.
• Experience with event-driven architectures, Kafka, or Google Pub/Sub.
• Experience with Terraform, CDNs, Redis, high-traffic systems, or cache-heavy systems.
• Experience building AI/LLM-powered services or agentic workflows.
