Senior Backend Engineer (Go)

Location: Fully remote; work across countries and time zones

What you will do

• Design, build, deploy, operate, and improve backend systems across multiple mobile products.
• Take ambiguous technical problems from investigation and architecture through implementation, production release, and iteration.
• Work primarily with Go while contributing to systems using Node.js and Python.
• Investigate unfamiliar systems, production incidents, performance issues, reliability concerns, and failure modes.
• Collaborate directly with product, frontend, data, and engineering colleagues.
• Improve existing systems and determine when to scale, simplify, migrate, or leave them unchanged.

Requirements

• Usually 5+ years of backend engineering experience, demonstrated through meaningful ownership rather than tenure alone.
• Experience designing or significantly changing backend systems and making architectural decisions with clear trade-offs.
• Strong understanding of relational databases, schema design, migrations, indexing, and query behavior beyond ORM usage.
• Experience with distributed systems, message queues or brokers such as Kafka, Docker, Kubernetes, cloud infrastructure, and APIs.
• Experience operating and debugging production services, including observability, performance, reliability, and failure analysis.
• Ability to learn Go or other unfamiliar technologies quickly and take unclear problems through to shipped results.
