Expert Java Developer (with German language) (Java/Kafka): Developing and modernizing high-performance services for a smart meter data platform with an accent on large-scale energy data processing, event-driven architecture, and production reliability. Focus on building Kafka-based data flows, operating Kubernetes services, resolving third-level incidents, and collaborating with German-speaking client stakeholders.
Location: Bulgaria, Poland, or Romania; remote/office work

What you will do
- Develop and maintain high-performance Java services that process large volumes of smart meter data.
- Modernize the existing smart energy platform to improve performance, maintainability, and resilience through 2027.
- Build event-driven data flows with Kafka and Kafka Streams.
- Operate and troubleshoot services on Kubernetes and monitor them with Grafana and Splunk.
- Maintain Azure DevOps continuous integration and delivery pipelines.
- Collaborate with DevOps engineers, architects, and client stakeholders, including contributing to Angular frontend work when required.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience with Java development and related technologies.
- 8+ years of experience with Spring Boot or similar frameworks such as Quarkus or Jakarta EE.
- 6+ years of experience with Docker and Kubernetes, plus practical Kafka or Kafka Streams experience.
- Recent hands-on experience with the required technologies, including production incident analysis and problem-solving.
- Experience with software design patterns, continuous integration, security practices, large-volume data solutions, relational and non-relational databases, OpenShift, and/or Azure.
- Fluent German and C1 English are required for client communication, technical discussions, and documentation.

- Knowledge of power grids and energy markets.
