Java Senior Software Engineer (Distributed Databases)

Salary: €74,200–€100,400 gross per year

What you will do

• Develop and test a scalable, geo-distributed, high-performance database solution.
• Ensure database scalability, performance, reliability, and high availability.
• Design storage, networking, failure-handling, and recovery mechanisms for multi-node systems.
• Implement and optimize data structures, replication, sharding, concurrency, and consistency algorithms.
• Profile, debug, and tune Java and database performance using JFR, JMC, async-profiler, VisualVM, and other tools.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, review code, and manage software engineers on the project.

Requirements

• 4+ years of Java programming experience.
• Deep knowledge of Java concurrency, the Java Memory Model, Java SE, I/O, and JVM internals.
• Experience with SQL databases, troubleshooting Java applications or databases, and distributed software solutions.
• Strong knowledge of SQL and concepts including Raft, MVCC, ACID, P2PL, Snapshot Isolation, and REPEATABLE READ.
• Strong leadership, problem-solving, debugging, and collaboration skills.
• Work authorization must align with one of the listed hiring locations; visa sponsorship and relocation are not provided.

Nice to have

• Experience with NoSQL or distributed databases and high-load distributed systems.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, or public cloud platforms such as AWS, GCE, or Azure.
• Open-source contributions, automation, performance or load testing, and active use of AI.
