Staff Engineer, Platform (Developer Platform)

Location: Amsterdam, Netherlands; office attendance three times a week

What you will do

• Own and evolve the developer platform used by hundreds of engineers.
• Build paved paths, self-service tooling, guardrails, CI/CD pipelines, build tooling, and artifact repositories.
• Improve backend and frontend developer experience across the engineering organization.
• Steward the GraphQL and gRPC ecosystems, including middleware, federation, schema sharing, CLIs, code generation, and clients.
• Evolve IAM primitives and improve the usability of Kubernetes, ECS, OpenMetrics, and Datadog.
• Conduct developer interviews, track DevEx metrics, and align product teams on platform-wide changes.

Requirements

• 10+ years of software engineering experience, including substantial work on developer platforms, internal tooling, or core infrastructure.
• Strong full-stack engineering ability across backend services, frontend build pipelines, Kubernetes manifests, and CI configuration.
• Hands-on expertise with a CI/CD system, container orchestrator, build tooling, backend-for-frontend systems, service-to-service communication, metrics, and artifact storage.
• Experience with GraphQL, gRPC, Kubernetes, and GitHub Actions is preferred within the required platform expertise.
• Ability to independently identify high-leverage problems, execute migrations, write design documents, and align stakeholders across teams.
• Strong communication skills and experience treating engineers as internal customers.

Nice to have

• Data-driven developer experience development using DORA or similar metrics.
• Experience with AWS, IAM at scale, JWTs, OIDC, fine-grained authorization, or Terraform.
