Π’Π΅ΠΊΡΡ:
TL;DR
Principal Fire & Hydraulic Engineer (Data Centres): Establishing and leading global fire protection and hydraulic engineering disciplines for hyperscale data centre projects with an accent on life safety, regulatory compliance, system reliability, and lifecycle value. Focus on governing fire and hydraulic standards, reviewing complex designs from concept through IFC, resolving multidisciplinary interfaces, and directing technical decisions across a multi-region project portfolio.
Location: HQ, North Sydney, Australia; occasional overseas travel is required.
Company
develops and operates hyperscale data centres across the Asia Pacific and Middle East region to support the digital infrastructure needs of major global companies.
What you will do
- Establish and lead βs global fire protection and hydraulic engineering disciplines, including governance, decision rights, technical assurance, and SME capability.
- Own fire and hydraulic requirements within the Global Minimum Standards for Engineering and Construction, as well as relevant Owner-Supplied Equipment specifications.
- Set technical direction for fire protection, detection, suppression, hydraulic, water storage, pumping, drainage, treatment, and associated control systems.
- Provide risk-based design assurance from concept through IFC, reviewing calculations, technical submissions, cause-and-effect matrices, and multidisciplinary interfaces.
- Act as the senior technical authority for material risks, deviations, waivers, substitutions, non-conformances, commissioning issues, and operational incidents.
- Partner with procurement, construction, commissioning, operations, authorities, insurers, customers, and delivery partners to improve compliance, reliability, cost, and lifecycle value.
Requirements
- Bachelorβs degree in Fire Safety, Fire Protection, Mechanical, Hydraulic, Building Services Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
- Typically 12+ years of progressive fire protection and hydraulic engineering experience, including leadership across complex, multi-project, or multi-region portfolios.
- Deep expertise in fire detection, alarms, occupant warning systems, fire indicator panels, fire cause-and-effect development, sprinklers, gaseous suppression, hydrants, nitrogen generation, pumps, and associated controls.
- Deep expertise in domestic, potable, and non-potable water systems, water treatment, sanitary and siphonic drainage, stormwater, storage, pumping, pipework sizing, and hydraulic analysis.
- Strong knowledge of fire standards, building regulations, Authority Having Jurisdiction processes, insurer requirements, and FM Global requirements.
- Experience in data centres, mission-critical facilities, industrial infrastructure, or other high-availability environments, with demonstrated people leadership, resource planning, stakeholder communication, and technical-function development.
Nice to have
- Relevant postgraduate qualification.
- Chartered or Professional Engineer status or relevant fire-safety accreditation.
Culture & Benefits
- Flexible and safe working environment focused on inclusion and diverse perspectives.
- Collaborative culture of problem solving, transparency, responsiveness, and continuous improvement.
- Career development through the Grow@Hyperscale program.
- Opportunity to contribute to the expansion of a rapidly growing hyperscale data centre platform across the APME region.
