Director of Security Engineering (AI)

Location: Remote - USA

Base salary: $214,200–$308,000 USD per year, plus potential bonus or incentive compensation, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Serve as deputy to the CISO and represent the security organization to executives, customers, auditors, and regulators.
• Lead, coach, and grow managers and senior engineers across Security Engineering and Security Operations.
• Own the security engineering roadmap covering AWS-first cloud security architecture, detection and response, identity, vulnerability management, and secure-by-default platforms.
• Drive cross-functional programs with Engineering, IT, and Product, including AI security governance, data perimeter controls, and federal compliance initiatives.
• Set engineering standards based on automation, infrastructure and controls as code, measurement, and continuous improvement.
• Build hiring pipelines, manage performance and promotions, plan succession, and translate technical risk into business strategy.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in security or software engineering, including 4+ years managing security teams.
• Production software engineering experience and the ability to evaluate security solutions from an engineering perspective.
• Experience building and scaling high-performing security teams, ideally including managers of managers.
• Deep technical fluency in AWS organizations and multi-account governance, Kubernetes, identity and access, detection engineering, and modern SDLC security.
• Proven cross-functional leadership, strong written communication, and executive presence with C-level leaders, customers, and auditors.
• Must be able to work remotely from the USA.

Nice to have

• Experience as a security engineering manager or senior manager at a fintech, high-growth startup, or forward-leaning enterprise.
• Experience building paved-path or secure-by-default platforms.
• Experience with FedRAMP, SOC 2, or ISO 27001 environments.
• Experience securing AI/ML systems or governing AI adoption at scale.
• Experience scaling security operations through automation in resource-constrained environments.
