Director of Information Security (AI)

Location: San Francisco Bay Area, Pittsburgh, Austin, or remote within the United States. U.S. person status is required due to export control regulations. Travel between offices is required approximately 25% of the time.

Salary: $180,000–$230,000 base annually, plus a 10% annual bonus and equity.

What you will do

• Build and own the information security program protecting source code, compiler toolchains, hardware designs, trade secrets, and confidential technical data.
• Design security architecture for developer infrastructure, software supply chains, build pipelines, networks, cloud systems, detection, logging, and incident response.
• Own NIST SP 800-171 and CMMC programs, including assessments, security plans, POA&Ms, remediation, SPRS, and audit readiness.
• Implement export-control requirements, including access segregation, U.S.-person gating, deemed-export analysis, and restricted-party screening with Legal.
• Govern AI tool usage, sensitive-data protection, privacy, tool spend, and data-protection practices.
• Run IT operations initially, including devices, MDM, identity, onboarding and offboarding, SaaS access, multi-site networking, office infrastructure, vendors, and licensing.

Requirements

• 7+ years of information security experience, including founding or sole ownership of a security function or building a new security program.
• Hands-on experience configuring security controls across developer workstations, build infrastructure, source-control platforms, CI/CD, secrets management, and cloud infrastructure.
• Working knowledge of NIST SP 800-171, CMMC, or a comparable federal security framework.
• Experience with MDM, identity providers, SSO, MFA, automated user lifecycle management, least privilege, access reviews, and multi-site networking.
• Clear written communication, practical judgment, and a service-oriented approach to IT and security support.
• U.S. person status is required: U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent residency.

Nice to have

• Experience with EAR, ITAR, CUI, or facility clearance processes.
• Semiconductor, hardware, EDA, federal, or defense customer security experience.
• Security certifications such as CISSP, GIAC, CMMC CCP, or CCA.
• Scripting and automation with Python, Bash, or infrastructure as code.
• Experience deploying or governing AI tools in a company.
