Engineering Manager (Insurance Platform)

Location: US remote eligible; must live in a state where Airbnb, Inc. has a registered entity. Occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites may be required by agreement with the manager.

Salary: $212,000–$265,000 USD base pay per year, with potential eligibility for bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.

What you will do

• Define the long-term technical strategy and architecture for the AirCover insurance platform.
• Scale systems for regional expansion by making regulatory, pricing, coverage, and enrollment rules configurable.
• Build experimentation capabilities for testing coverage offers, pricing, placement, and messaging.
• Lead development of reliable, auditable, and scalable systems for policy, coverage, enrollment, pricing, and experimentation.
• Own the roadmap, technical direction, operational health, incident response, and on-call quality.
• Hire, mentor, and develop senior and staff engineers while coordinating with Product, Data Science, Legal, Insurance, Finance, and Operations.

Requirements

• 10+ years of relevant technology experience, including 5+ years managing large-scale software systems.
• Experience setting multi-year technical direction for business-critical platforms, including major re-architecture or multi-region expansion.
• Deep backend platform experience with distributed systems and high-availability services.
• Experience using experiments and measurement to improve conversion or attach rates.
• Experience managing and growing senior and staff engineers.
• Strong communication, stakeholder influence, and experience fostering diversity and belonging.

Nice to have

• Experience in insurance, payments, fintech, or another regulated domain.
• Experience incorporating data science, machine learning models, or LLM-driven automation into experimentation.
