Information System Security Engineer (ISSE) Senior (Cybersecurity)

What you will do

• Develop and maintain a methodology for categorizing FBI IT systems by architecture, technology stack, security classification, FIPS-199 impact level, hosting environment, data sensitivity, mission function, and system complexity.
• Assess on-premises, cloud, hybrid, and classified systems, including their interfaces, dependencies, security controls, and operational impact.
• Translate technical system attributes into ISSO/ISSE support levels, labor mapping recommendations, and ITSSS seniority categories.
• Support RMF activities, security architecture reviews, control implementation analysis, inheritance assessments, boundary analysis, and system interconnection analysis.
• Maintain technical documentation, reporting logic, categorization workflows, chargeback data, and cost-recovery support models.
• Apply and update the framework using NIST, CNSS, FBI, and federal security guidance.

Requirements

• Active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility is required to start.
• Bachelor’s degree in information security, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
• 8+ years of experience, with relevant work experience substitutable for education.
• Experience assessing complex systems for security architecture, control implementation, risk categorization, and authorization documentation.
• Strong knowledge of FIPS-199, NIST SP 800-37, NIST SP 800-53, CNSS 1253, RMF, and system security engineering principles.
• Experience with on-premises, AWS, Azure, or hybrid enterprise environments and the ability to communicate technical findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Experience supporting FBI, DOJ, DoD, Intelligence Community, or other federal national security customers.
• Experience with classified systems, cross-domain solutions, or National Security Systems.
• Experience with GRC platforms, structured security repositories, automation, workflow orchestration, or cybersecurity reporting tools.
• CISSP, CASP+, CISM, CCSP, CAP, or AWS/Azure security certification.
