TL;DR
Information System Security Engineer (ISSE) Mid (Cybersecurity/RMF): Supporting the FBI by designing and maintaining a system categorization methodology based on architecture, risk, hosting environment, data sensitivity, and mission requirements with an accent on security engineering, compliance, and scalable technical analysis. Focus on analyzing complex on-premises and cloud systems, mapping security attributes to staffing and cost-recovery models, and supporting RMF documentation, control analysis, and system authorization activities.

What you will do

  • Design and maintain a methodology for categorizing FBI IT systems by architecture, technology stack, risk, hosting environment, data sensitivity, mission function, and operational dependencies.
  • Assess on-premises, hybrid, and cloud-based systems, including Azure and AWS environments, to determine security engineering and ISSO/ISSE support requirements.
  • Analyze security architecture, control implementation, inheritance, boundaries, system interconnections, and authorization documentation within RMF activities.
  • Translate technical system attributes into labor mapping, staffing, reporting, chargeback, and cost-recovery recommendations.
  • Partner with ISSOs, system owners, architects, and program leadership to document repeatable categorization decisions and maintain a compliant framework.
  • Support automation, workflow, reporting, and continuous-improvement efforts as policies, technologies, and organizational requirements change.

Requirements

  • Active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility is required to start.
  • Bachelor’s degree in information security, computer science, engineering, information systems, or a related technical field; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • At least 5 years of experience in cybersecurity engineering, information assurance engineering, system security engineering, or ISSE support in a federal environment.
  • Strong knowledge of FIPS-199, NIST SP 800-37, NIST SP 800-53, CNSS 1253, RMF, and system security engineering principles.
  • Experience assessing complex systems, security architecture, control implementation, risk categorization, and technical security documentation.
  • One of the following certifications is required: CISSP, CASP+, CISM, CCSP, CAP, or an AWS/Azure security certification.

Nice to have

  • Experience supporting FBI, DOJ, DoD, Intelligence Community, or other federal national security customers.
  • Experience with classified systems, cross-domain solutions, or National Security Systems.
  • Experience with GRC platforms, structured security-data repositories, workflow orchestration, automation, or cybersecurity reporting tools.
