Staff Software Engineer - Federal (Cybersecurity)

Location: Hybrid role based in Chicago, New York, Seattle, or Washington, DC, United States

Salary: $161,000–$221,000 annual base salary

What you will do

• Build, maintain, and enhance security data and infrastructure platforms for public-sector and enterprise security operations.
• Design and implement enterprise security systems, integrations, and feature enhancements.
• Develop Python-based automation, custom tooling, and cloud infrastructure using Terraform or similar infrastructure-as-code tools.
• Build ETL/ELT pipelines and integrations for security logs, APIs, cloud platforms, and security data lakes.
• Establish monitoring and alerting for security posture, misconfigurations, and threats across endpoints, SaaS, and cloud workloads.
• Identify and remediate security gaps while contributing security expertise to architecture and solution reviews.

Requirements

• 8+ years of coding and scripting experience focused on security automation and custom tooling.
• Required experience with Python; Bash, PowerShell, or Go experience is beneficial.
• Experience developing scalable, fault-tolerant security data pipelines and integrating log sources.
• Experience with Terraform, infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud-first security automation.
• Current or previous Secret, Top Secret, or TS/SCI clearance.
• Strong communication skills for collaboration with engineering, security, leadership, support, and external vendors.

Nice to have

• 2+ years of experience building solutions in regulated environments such as FedRAMP High, IL4, IL5, or IL6.
• Experience with MFA, SAML, OAuth, OIDC, or WebAuthn.
• Knowledge of Okta’s ecosystem, advanced integrations, continuous compliance, policy-as-code, or automated evidence gathering.
