Staff Security Engineer (Drone Security)

Location: San Francisco Bay Area, United States; office attendance once a week and quarterly travel to test or production sites required.

Salary: $193,800–$285,000 USD base salary per year, plus potential equity grants.

What you will do

• Own the security strategy for the Air drone fleet, operators, networks, nests, and ground infrastructure.
• Secure drone firmware, onboard software, physical hardware, docking infrastructure, and charging systems.
• Design and implement secure networking architecture across drone and ground systems.
• Review RFCs and design documents, providing actionable security guidance throughout development.
• Validate security controls at test and production sites and establish measurable risk-reduction metrics.
• Partner with Enterprise Security, GRC, engineering, hardware, operations, and leadership teams.

Requirements

• 8+ years of security engineering experience, including significant experience securing IoT or robotic platforms.
• Hands-on experience with drone authentication and the physical and software security of drones and supporting infrastructure.
• Strong networking fundamentals, including VPN or mesh networking tools such as Tailscale.
• Experience with Python or Go, cloud infrastructure on AWS or GCP, and Terraform.
• Ability to work independently, coordinate cross-functional teams, review technical designs, and communicate security risks clearly.
• Based in or willing to relocate to the San Francisco Bay Area; able to attend the office weekly and travel to test or production sites at least quarterly.
