Director, Software Engineer Data Processing Engine Orchestration (AI)

Location: San Jose, California, United States. Hybrid work with some level of in-office and/or in-person expectations.

Salary: $227,800–$338,800 USD annually, with the final offer determined by location, qualifications, experience, and education.

What you will do

• Lead and grow an engineering team focused on query planning, query optimization, and execution orchestration for massively parallel data processing engines.
• Work with technical leads to deliver advanced data processing engine orchestration capabilities.
• Establish and improve metrics for product quality, performance, scale, reliability, and customer deployment outcomes.
• Advance software development lifecycle practices, including the use of AI to improve code quality, release velocity, and productivity.
• Execute the product roadmap in alignment with organizational goals and priorities.
• Build a high-performance, high-integrity, and collaborative engineering culture.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field; a master’s degree or PhD is preferred.
• 12+ years of production software development experience and 7+ years managing software development teams.
• 10+ years planning, developing, launching, and supporting core components of massively parallel data processing platforms in production.
• Deep technical experience with database systems, data warehouses, query optimization, or query engines.
• Experience with Apache Spark, Apache Flink, Apache Gluten, Velox, Apache DataFusion, or Spark RAPIDS.
• Strong judgment in technology, AI adoption, software development, and people management, with the ability to engage customers, product management, sales, and executive management.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree or PhD in computer science or a related field.
• Experience with additional open-source data processing platforms and their communities.
