Senior Manager of Software Engineering (AI)

Location: Chicago, United States; hybrid work with four days in the office each week in most locations.

Salary: $147,550–$226,233 annual total cash compensation, including base salary and target incentive.

What you will do

• Lead North American engineering teams supporting Plan Advantage and Fiduciary Services.
• Hire, coach, and develop technical leads and engineers while fostering ownership, accountability, and continuous learning.
• Establish engineering ownership, decision-making, architecture review, design standards, and consistent delivery expectations.
• Lead the transition from AI-assisted to agentic engineering by defining context, guardrails, automated checks, and verification practices.
• Drive initiatives spanning multiple applications and engineering teams, managing dependencies, removing blockers, and maintaining delivery momentum.
• Partner with Product Management on roadmaps, priorities, and platform modernization.

Requirements

• 8+ years of software engineering experience, including 5+ years leading teams with direct people management responsibility.
• Strong technical depth in distributed systems, service architecture, API design, data consistency, resiliency, and performance.
• Hands-on proficiency with Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, AWS, and cloud-native development, with enough JavaScript/TypeScript front-end depth to review full-stack designs.
• Experience delivering complex initiatives across multiple engineering teams and applications.
• Experience with AI-assisted engineering, coding agents, AI-assisted code reviews, testing, documentation, engineering guardrails, and verification practices.
• Working knowledge of CI/CD, automated testing, observability, SLOs, secure SDLC, cloud-native operations, and a bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
