Senior Staff Software Engineer (AI)

Location: San Francisco office with an office-centric hybrid schedule; in-office days are Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Working from home on Wednesdays is generally available, while Fridays depend on the work and partner teams.

Base salary: $297,000–$350,000 per year, plus potential equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Define the technical vision and architecture for the AI organization, including the AI platform, agent systems, and Studio.
• Lead cross-team initiatives covering agent runtime and orchestration, Work Graph-grounded context and memory, and enterprise-scale LLM inference.
• Partner with Product, Design, Data Science, Security, and Legal to develop reliable and trusted AI features from prototypes to production.
• Establish AI quality practices through offline and online evaluation, production monitoring, and usage-driven feedback loops.
• Guide decisions on model and vendor strategy, build versus buy, and shared platform abstractions.
• Mentor senior and staff engineers, develop technical leads, and represent AI engineering work through talks, writing, and the technical community.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience building production software, including significant experience leading technical work across multiple teams.
• 3+ years building production systems with LLMs or machine learning, including agents, retrieval, evaluation, or inference infrastructure.
• Experience leading architecture and strategic initiatives across organizational boundaries.
• Strong knowledge of foundation models, agent frameworks, tool use, evaluation methods, distributed systems, reliability, latency, and cost optimization at scale.
• Clear communication skills across engineering, product, business, and executive audiences, with a strong record of coaching senior and staff-level engineers.
• Experience with multi-tenant enterprise SaaS, AI security, privacy, and data governance is beneficial.
