TL;DR

Expected base salary: $108,000–$170,000 USD per year, with bonus potential and early-stage equity.

What you will do

  • Establish fabrication and measurement workflows for functional materials.
  • Specify, source, assemble, and validate custom synthesis and characterization systems, emphasizing optical characterization.
  • Design and integrate specialized hardware for fabricating, characterizing, and testing novel functional materials and devices.
  • Integrate instrumentation into autonomous laboratory and AI-driven experimental workflows.
  • Diagnose and improve instrument designs using experimental feedback.
  • Partner with computational, synthesis, and characterization teams to define future hardware capabilities.

Requirements

  • PhD or equivalent experience in applied physics, materials science, chemistry, or a related field.
  • Expertise in functional materials such as semiconductors, photonics, or superconducting materials.
  • Expertise in solid-state synthesis and characterization of functional materials.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and integrate hardware for novel, high-throughput experimentation.
  • Ability to work in fast-paced, data-driven, high-throughput R&D environments.

Nice to have

  • Software development for controls, data collection, and analysis.
  • CAD, machining, 3D printing, and rapid prototyping for custom hardware.
  • Knowledge of AI/ML-driven discovery workflows or autonomous laboratory platforms.
  • Experience with Class 4 lasers.
