Salary: $60,967–$103,643 per year based on full-time employment.

What you will do
- Assist biologists with shore- and boat-based field sampling in estuaries, rivers, and streams.
- Collect water quality, phytoplankton, zooplankton, and larval fish samples.
- Sort and identify plankton and fish in the laboratory using microscopes.
- Deploy and retrieve weighted receivers for acoustic telemetry projects.
- Complete field data forms and support fish relocation and biological resource monitoring activities.
- Work up to 12 hours per day and up to 40 hours per week, including occasional night and weekend shifts.
Requirements
- B.S. in Biology or a related field, or two years of field biology experience.
- Valid driver's license, ability to pass an MVR check, and access to a reliable vehicle.
- Experience identifying common fish species in the San Francisco Estuary and/or inland rivers and streams.
- Knowledge of sampling methods for fish, plankton, and water quality monitoring in freshwater or estuarine environments.
- Ability to work outdoors for extended periods, spend long hours on boats, wade in rivers and streams, and work in hot, cold, rainy, and foggy conditions.
- Ability to lift up to 60 pounds and travel up to 5 days per week.
Nice to have
- Microscope-based plankton and fish identification experience.
- Experience operating 15–25-foot boats.
- Experience with acoustic telemetry, fish relocation, or construction monitoring for biological resources.
- Motorboat operator training certificate, such as MOCC or MOTC.
